Service update – 23rd March

There are no tags

In light of the latest Government guidance on social distancing, Network has taken the decision to close its building in Elm Park from Friday 27th March.

We recognise the enormous strain the current situation is placing upon us all, and the vital role that mental health services have to play in the efforts to maintain our wellbeing at this time. We will continue to support our students in learning remotely, and to support clients and counsellors to access counselling remotely.

We are reviewing the situation regularly and working hard to ensure that Network is best able to respond to the need for affordable counselling and listening support.

Service update

Network’s counselling service is at present open as usual. We provide a service to clients who come to us in serious distress as well as training to increase the capacity of the profession, and have a duty of care to continue to provide much needed support in a difficult time. We recognise that we have a responsibility to balance this with the need to maintain a safe environment for all who come to Network.

As such, we are asking all staff, students, counsellors, clients and visitors not to come to Network if they are showing suspected symptoms of the coronavirus. Please use the 111 online service, and let us know if you will not be coming in.

We are asking all people who come to the building to wash their hands upon entering and to observe guidance on infection control from the NHS. We are cleaning door handles regularly and taking other precautions to minimise risk of contact with the virus.

Our Certificate and Diploma courses will be taught online as of week commencing 23rd March, and current students can expect further information from their tutors. Other future courses will be updated nearer the time, and any people currently booked onto CPD, EPPG or introductory courses will be kept up to date by email should any decisions to change plans be made.

We are delighted to be offering a brand new introductory course, which starts after Easter. “On Becoming a Person” will focus on the personal development aspect of counselling training.  The aim of the course is to develop increased levels of awareness, understanding and acceptance of self. “Suffering ceases to be suffering at the moment it finds a meaning.” Viktor Frankl.

Our next CPD Workshop on Friday 6th March will consider why meaning matters, and how we can support our clients to move from despair to hope.

Our next introductory course will be starting on Wednesday 8th January 2020.  ‘Being There’ is an introduction to listening and counselling skills.  It is for anyone wishing to develop their listening and communication skills, for those in any kind of helping relationship, and for those interested in training as a counsellor. If any of these are you, then you would be welcome to join us in the New year.  For more details and a booking form: https://network.org.uk/training/being-there/

Network is delighted to have been chosen as the charity for this year’s Downend Round Table Fireworks. As the best show in Bristol the fireworks will be entertaining 10,000 people on 1st November. Funds raised from ticket sales and collections on the night will support our work with clients on low incomes who would otherwise be unable to access the support they need.

Join us on the night and book your tickets here.

Thank you!

A huge thanks to the staff and shoppers at Asda Filton for supporting Network. We had a stand in the foyer during Mental Health Awareness Week 2019, and raised a much needed £335.15 to support mental health in our community.

From 13-19 May we will be celebrating positive mental health, and thinking about how we think and feel about our bodies. Body issue images can affect us at any age, so take a look at these tips for self-care.
