Can you help Network change lives through counselling?
Poor mental health affects so many of us
It’s said that every year 1 in 4 of us will struggle with our mental health. When we find things hard, it affects our relationships, our work and our physical health. It impacts our children, partners, friends and colleagues. We become less connected, less active, less hopeful.
When we look at the UK as a whole, mental health problems cost the UK at least £117.9 billion annually (Mental Health Foundation and the London School of Economics and Political Science July 2022). Annually there are over 10 million recorded instances of mental ill health. And depression is now the third most common cause of disability.
Counselling can help
At Network we believe that counselling is a powerful tool that can transform lives.
Counselling can prevent difficult situations from turning into mental health problems – a Danish study in 2018 found talking therapies helped bereaved people remain out of depression.
A study by the American Psychological Association, showed that about 3 in 4 people report real benefits from counselling. Network’s own research shows that to be much higher – over 85% of our clients report a significant improvement in their wellbeing.
Out of reach for so many
Counselling changes lives, yet sadly it is out of reach for many people at the time they need it.
The NHS is overwhelmed. Their limited resources mean that waiting lists are growing longer and longer. And at the end of the wait, counselling is inflexible and extremely limited (an average of 7.5 sessions in 2020-21, according to NHS Digital).
Private counsellors offer flexibility, choice and short waiting lists – but are often expensive. Most charge between £50 and £80 for a session. And even online services can cost £40 a week.
What does Network offer?
Network offers an alternative: our counselling is easier to access and longer term than the NHS, and our service is significantly cheaper than private counsellors.
As a charity, the donations we receive enable us to subsidise the cost of counselling sessions. We keep the price as low as possible, so that more people can afford life-changing counselling. We aim to keep our counselling prices at 50% of most local private counsellors.
The counselling we offer is person-centred. We allow each person the time to explore what they really need from their sessions – not pushing them into a one-size-fits-all programme. And we offer up to 24 weeks of counselling, enough time to really make a difference.
Can you help us?
Can you help us to provide life-changing counselling? Every year, we need to raise over £60,000 to keep offering our service. Every pound we receive goes towards subsidising the cost of counselling.
Are you able to make a donation?
Anything you give will make a difference. Regular monthly donations are particularly helpful. They mean we can plan better for the future. Thank you!
