Become a Placement Counsellor

Network is an established counselling service that has been supporting people across Bristol and the surrounding areas for over 40 years. We are pleased to offer counselling placements to individuals training to become counsellors.

Applications for counselling placements are currently closed. Next intake: October 2026

As a placement counsellor, you will be asked to:

  • Commit to a 12-month placement with Network.
  • Work with a minimum of three clients during your placement.
  • Work relationally with clients and practise in line with Network’s ethos and values.

We offer flexibility in how placements are completed, including options to work either in person or online, and flexibility around when placement hours are undertaken.

Clients at Network are offered up to 24 weekly counselling sessions. All clients are assessed before being allocated to a placement counsellor, ensuring appropriate matching and support.

You are welcome to apply at any time. We will contact applicants closer to the next intake period to advise whether they have been invited to interview.

October 2026 intake interviews:
12th, 13th and 20th October 2026

Eligibility

If you are currently studying a Level 4 counselling qualification, you must have completed at least 20 hours of client work before applying. Please note that this requirement relates to direct client work and does not include classroom learning or practice sessions with fellow students.

We are happy to consider trainees studying at Level 5 and above who are seeking their first placement.

Network counsellors are required to work relationally with clients and practise in accordance with our ethos and values statement.

We are particularly keen to hear from applicants from underrepresented groups.

Application Process

  1. Submit your completed application form by 28th September 2026.
  2. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an interview.
  3. Successful applicants will be offered a placement subject to satisfactory references and other onboarding requirements.
  4. Placements will commence following induction and completion of the onboarding process. An induction morning will be held on Monday 9th November 2026 (TBC).

Please note that, due to the volume of applications we receive, we may not be able to offer an interview to all applicants.
