Volunteer as a qualified counsellor

Network is an established counselling service that has supported people across Bristol and the surrounding areas for over 40 years. We’re now recruiting qualified volunteer counsellors to help us offer affordable counselling to more people, in Bristol and beyond, through our online service.

As a volunteer counsellor, we ask that you:

  • Intend to volunteer with Network for around 12 months, where possible, to support continuity for clients and the service.
  • Aim to offer counselling to approximately three clients per week, recognising that this may vary according to my availability and circumstances.
  • Work relationally with clients and practise in line with Network’s ethos and values.

In return, we will:

  • Allocate clients according to preference and offer a diverse caseload
  • Offer ongoing support from the Counselling Manager and team.
  • Provide the opportunity to gain volunteering experience within a supportive, professional environment.
  • Provide group supervision, running in groups of 3 to 4 volunteers. Groups will start once we have enough volunteers to form one.
  • Give concessions to Network CPD courses.
  • Provide you with a suitable DBS certificate if you do not have one.

We offer flexibility in how our volunteers work, including options to work either in person or online, and flexibility around when you see your clients.

Clients at Network are offered up to 24 weekly counselling sessions. All clients are assessed before being allocated to a counsellor, ensuring appropriate matching and support.

Eligibility

We welcome volunteers who are qualified counsellors and registered members of a professional body such as BACP, NCPS, ACC or UKCP (or an equivalent).

Network counsellors are required to work relationally with clients and practise in accordance with our ethos and values statement.

We are particularly keen to hear from applicants from underrepresented groups.
